The very nature of our democracy in Malaysia is the intention of the people be satisfied. In Malaysia the satisfaction of the intentions are to be brought up in Parliament and as Malaysia exercises the 3 separation of powers (even though there are inter lapping) the only Power to create and thus repeal an Act/Law lies in Parliament.

As in regards to the preventive laws that are existence some felt that the intention of such a law is longer intended...many calls for a repeal....NOTE it is not the Executive power that decides on this (even though the Executive represents the Govet of the day).

As such Parliament should discuss the ISA in length if need be and all parties (govt/oppposition) as well as the Speaker of the Dewan should really come together to read on these laws and see/discuss any needs of changes etc...let all be mature enough to debate and reach a decision...rather each hinting to abolish/repeal/maintained such laws...remember that the Parliament represents the voice of the people....let that be so...and let the Parliament be reflective of this and not be reflective on the powers of the Executive.

The Courts in so far can only interprete the law and could make suggestions on it but the power to repeal/abolish such laws rests with Parliament.

Personally I always feel that the ISA is a good preventive law acting as a "protective shield" to guarantee the safety of the nation...however I also believe that once such power (however good) rests on one individual/ body/organisation there is room for abuse.

So it is for the representative of our people to find a solution to this rather than holding the view to have it maintained/ abolished/repealed based on own views. It is best that all involved should address the issue with an open mind and with the good intention to safeguard the nation and also to safeguard against abuse.

Justice must always be done and most of all It must always be SEEN to be done as well.

50 years as a nation is a young age....but if we would want to be a developed nation by 2020 (aka 11 years plus to go), our mantality must be more than young.

Democracy in the outset alone is not enough....as we subscribe to democracy we must keep evolving to realise the democracy structure.......The world is changing....we must change too. Not by merely by lip service but by actions.

All our PMs has taught us to be Independent (Tunku A Rahman), to be developed (Razak) to be United (Tun Hussein Onn) , to be Modern (Tun Mahathir) and to be ouspoken and responsible for it (current PM)

Let us not take this 50 odd years in vain..........MALAYSIA BOLEHAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
